
Lian Pan is a PhD researcher in Design at the University of Southampton and a member of the Global Smart Lab. With a background in 3D animation, digital visual effects, and immersive media, his research focuses on the application of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) in areas such as smart fitness, cultural experience, and ageing-in-place service design.
He has been actively involved in interdisciplinary projects across China and the UK, working on VR-based retail environments, immersive fitness platforms, and virtual exhibition experiences. His work bridges technical innovation and user-centred design, aiming to create impactful interactive solutions that enhance wellbeing, engagement, and accessibility.
With practical expertise in motion capture, photogrammetry, and real-time interactive development using tools like Unreal Engine, Maya, and Vicon, Lian is committed to exploring the role of immersive technology in shaping the future of learning, health, and digital culture.
