
Dr Shan Wang is a Senior Lecturer in Design Management at the University of Southampton and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her interdisciplinary research bridges design, health, social science, and AI, with a focus on ageing, inclusive communities, and user-centred innovation. She leads projects on smart ageing-in-place ecosystems, dementia care, and inclusive design, focuses on innovation in products and services,aiming to improve health and wellbeing through design, and to enhance knowledge translation and policy implementation. Shan is the Knowledge Exchange Champion for her department and was appointed an AHRC IAA Commercialisation Fellow (2023/24) and a member of the Housing LIN Future Leaders Programme (2025/26). She believes that design is not only a driver of technological and service innovation, but also a powerful bridge between individuals and society—enabling change and promoting collective wellbeing. She is committed to building an open, inclusive, and interdisciplinary research and teaching ecosystem that amplifies the impact of design in real-world contexts, shaping a healthier, fairer, and more compassionate future.
